I am a huge fan of all things related to psychological education and remaining on the cutting edge of new learning techniques. I realized that some of the little tips and tricks I’ve accumulated over recent years would make for an enjoyable blog post and quick read, so I decided to compile a few. Here’s to having more fun exploring the opportunities for growth at your doorstep every day!
1 – Any time you present a desire to yourself and approach it mentally, your brain begins finding ways to form it into reality. This can obviously work both negatively and positively, but hopefully, it’s more often the latter case! In any situation, the brain is remarkably more powerful than we often give it credit.

The relatively old saying of “if you can dream it, you can do it” is without a doubt true (perhaps in this day more than ever). When you give your brain the opportunity to conceive something, it automatically starts presenting you with options through which the idea can be carried out. Recognize and harness this power for the pursuit of your goals and dreams!
2 – When we hit the gym, it can often appear as though we are plateauing sooner than we want to. We often chalk this up to the supposed incapacity of our bodies, when it is really our minds.
Think back to the last time you were working out. It may have been more of a ‘maintenance’ workout, where you weren’t pushing it very hard because you needed to simply maintain a certain level of energy or fitness. But perhaps it was a ‘threshold’ workout – where you knew ahead of time that you needed to legitimately stretch your limits within your allotted time.

Did you push through the pain, or drop down through a painful gasp for air? It is usually our minds that tell us when to quit, not our bodies. Next time you are pumping the iron or hitting the sidewalk, remind yourself to push it a little harder than you normally would. The top athletes in the world have corralled their minds to bend to their will, rather than their bodies.
3 – It is our attitude, not our circumstances, that truly show who we are on a day-by-day basis. When we tell ourselves to remain happy despite anything else that could happen in a given day, it is often with a much higher success rate than those who allow themselves to be open to all ill will and unfortunate occurrences.
Our attitude reveals who we truly are. Share on XTell yourself to stick it out and keep an internal grin on, and you likely will. Tell yourself that the day sucks right from the get-go, and it likely will. Our brains are more capable of controlling our emotions than we normally realize.
Tony Robbins was one of the first modern-day performance specialists and personal developers to spread the fact that if you are having a bad day and you force a real smile, you are much more likely to feel happy afterwards, than to try to get yourself to smile through outside means and hope you feel happy afterwards. There is a much greater probability of being able to entertain ourselves than to hope to be entertained.
4 – The type of people you look for are the type of people you find.
Many a time I have heard from friends or seen on their social media profiles that they wish they could get rid of their current social circle, or that they had other posts to look at on their news feed. To these types of comments I have always chuckled to a certain degree, because ultimately it is up to the individual to retain or remove people within their contacts and social circles!
If you don’t like what someone is posting about or sharing, especially something in real life, who is stopping you from appropriately (and as best you can, politely) removing yourself from their presence? There is no reason to complain when you have full control over who is in your life and who is not. To the contrary, if you really appreciate and value what someone is posting or sharing, let them know! We live in an often thankless world, and those who are doing their best to help create a compassionate and livable world deserve to have a pat on the back now and then.
5 – What you put in is what you get out.

Share on XJust like number four, there are countless moments when I come across complaints about the sadness, tragedy, woes and hardship of our world (or even more personal, daily interactions) without taking into account the reasons why these things might be. Anyone can be a critic – it takes a different kind of person to observe the admirable and valid parts about a person, place, event, or idea.
If you are exhausted and upset about the place in life you are currently at, or the leaden burdens that are weighing you down, perhaps it is time to take a look at what you are feeding yourself, metaphorically speaking. Everyone can stand to use a periodic update when it comes to what we are taking in through our mental capacities.
