Why Haven’t Writers Been Told These 5 Facts?

facts

Have you ever wondered how some writers reach the hall of fame, seemingly popping up overnight? Or wondered why you haven’t managed to get there, yet you’re writing away, doing what you’re meant to, but traffic to your blog is dismal, you have no subscribers and people aren’t engaging?

Well I can tell you there are lots of writers who wonder the same things, and often they believe it comes down to luck. Although these writers could have been in some correct places at correct times, luck wasn’t what got them there. No, the truth is a bit more complex…

Here we take a look at five facts writers haven’t been told before, and how they can help you on your journey to greatness.

5. OWN Your Work!

Most writers don’t believe in themselves, in fact they believe they’re not good enough. Stop worrying about whether you’re good enough and start writing! Honestly, the more you write the better you’ll become. Own your title as a writer and believe that you are a writer, and soon you’ll become one. In other words, it’s only after you associate your identity with a behavior that your actions start producing better results.

Also, you need to focus on being effective, not good. Remember that what is “good” or “entertaining” for one person isn’t necessarily good for another. You might write a piece that resonates with plenty of people, but there are also plenty of people out there that the message won’t resonate with. You have to accept that you can’t be everything to everyone, but that doesn’t make you a bad writer. Stop worrying and start believing in your abilities!

4. Why Haven’t You Shared This Yet?

Think about this one long and hard:

What do you know a lot about?

What do you talk about at dinner parties, to friends or to relatives? What are you passionate about? If you can figure this out, this is where you should be headed. You need to be able to write about your passions and areas of expertise. If you’re writing about what you know, you’ll be helping people solve problems or giving them expert advice. Do this in a reliable and personal manner, and they’ll keep coming back.

When you’ve written a few articles keep an eye out for which ones do well and which don’t. Play around with this and use this as a strategy for keeping your content on track and interesting to your audience. Keep your content exclusive for your audience and you’ll build relationships that stand for what you believe in.

3. Give A Little… Or A LOT

People love a little something for free, and if you give a little, they’ll be grateful for the gift. If you’re generous, then they’ll be generous too by sharing their details with you, maybe commenting on your blog, and even sharing your blog with friends – that’s the space you want to be in. Don’t just think blog posts; expand your thinking by creating eBooks, webinars, Q&A sessions, or anything else that is relevant to your area of expertise that people will find valuable.

2. Know Your Influencers, And Help Them

One of the critical things to making your blog or your website successful is to mix in the right circles… The influential circles. While this may seem like an impossible task, it certainly isn’t and you have more control over it than you think. So how do you do this?

First you need to become an expert in your field, as we’ve discussed already. The next step is to offer your work to trusted experts in the same field. Finally, these experts will decide if your work is creative and authoritative enough in the domain that you work in. If they do, those influencers will get your name out there. This is just scratching the surface of why and how creating influential networks is a cornerstone for your business.

1. Work, Work, Then Work Some More

When someone seems to appear out of nowhere as an overnight sensation, we sit and wonder how they did it. What we don’t realize is that it’s actually taken a lot of blood, sweat and tears to get there. What they’ve done is work and work hard.

Most writers who have reached the pinnacle of success have probably written 20 posts or more before that first one gets noticed and it snowballs from there. The secret to unlocking this success is to stick with it and not give up. The more you write, the better you become, and it could take a number of attempts to get there. You should also study other writers’ work that you admire and learn a few tricks of the trade from them.

The bottom line is writing takes practice and hard work, and belief in yourself as a writer, as well as connecting with those influencers. If you follow these facts of writing, you’ll be well on your way.
